Background of the Study
Continuing education (CE) plays a vital role in ensuring that healthcare professionals, including nurses, maintain and enhance their skills and knowledge throughout their careers. The healthcare field is constantly evolving, with new medical technologies, treatments, and best practices emerging regularly. Therefore, it is essential for nurses to engage in continuing education to stay current with these developments, improve their practice, and provide high-quality patient care (Ogunbiyi et al., 2023).
At the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Makurdi, continuing education programs are implemented to foster the professional growth of nurses. These programs encompass a variety of activities, including workshops, seminars, online courses, and conferences, aimed at enhancing nursing knowledge and skills in clinical care, leadership, and patient safety (Durojaiye et al., 2023). Research indicates that nurses who engage in CE programs experience improved job satisfaction, increased confidence in their abilities, and better patient outcomes (Tijani et al., 2024). This study will explore the impact of continuing education on the professional growth of nurses at FMC Makurdi, focusing on how these programs influence clinical competence, career advancement, and job satisfaction.
